Richard D. McGowan Rick "Gunner" McGowan, 54, of
Clarendon Hills. On March 14, 2013 we said goodbye to our beloved Gunner.
In his final days and hours he was surrounded by family and friends, much
as he lived his life. Whether he was shooting hoops, playing softball,
sharing special times with his family or laughing with friends, Gunner
lived life to the fullest. He was a dedicated family man, friend and
volunteer. We didn't get to keep him with us as long as we wanted, but
like a sunset or a day at the beach, sometimes the best things in life are
fleeting. Maybe that's what makes them so precious. Often Gunner said
"Never Give Up, Never Surrender," and throughout his battle against cancer
he never did. That courage will be part of his legacy. Gunner is survived
by his wife Katie (nee Hillman), daughter Delaney and son Nathan, parents
Fred and Joanne McGowan, brothers Keith (Robin), Timothy, and Dennis
(Jill), and sister Linda Gonzales. He was blessed throughout his life with
innumerable friends and a loving extended family. In lieu of flowers,
donations to Delaney and Nathan McGowan Education Fund, Clarendon Hills
Bank, 200 Burlington Ave., Clarendon Hills, IL 60514.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home.
