12/02/2012   I am saddened to report that Dr. Tom Shirley passed early Sunday morning Dec. 2, 2012. Services for Dr.Shirley will be at 11:00AM Thursday Dec. 6th at the Orchard Evangelical Free church in Arlington Heights. I am certain more information will be available in the Daily Herald tomorrow or the next day. I thought you would like to know.

DR. THOMAS WILLIAM SHIRLEY

Dr. Thomas William Shirley of Prospect Heights for 52 years Dr. Thomas William Shirley was born on May 7, 1930, in Milford, Mass., to Ralph B. and Florence Ellen (nee Morris ) Shirley. He went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012. Thomas was a retired Naval Reserves captain having served his country for 43 years, two of which were active duty during the Korean War as an officer on the destroyer U.S.S. Renshaw DDE499. He received his doctorate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston. He was an educator in School District 214 for 34 years, serving as Principal at Wheeling High School for 25 years. During his tenure in District 214, he began the ROTC Program, the TORCH Program (OMNI), and contributed to the continuing education night school program. He was a member at Orchard Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, where he served in various ministries. Tom was actively involved with the Rotary Club of Wheeling, Salvation Army, and the Dollars For Scholars Program. He loved to spend time with his family, and his greatest pride his grandchildren and was loved by all. Thomas is survived by his spouse, Linda of 56 years, whom he married on Aug. 11, 1956; his children, Scott (Kristine) Shirley, Stephen Shirley, David Shirley and Philip (Andra) Shirley; his grandchildren, Thomas, Samantha, Sierra, Luke, Michael and Logan; and his half-brothers and sisters, Mary Jane, Rita, David and Giles. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Manny; his half-sister, Cindy McLean; and his brother, Ralph Bramlet Shirley. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 N. Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004, or the Salvation Army, salvationarmyusa.org. It is with deep regret to announce, Thomas A Borre passed away on May 29th, 2012. Services are set for Saturday the 2nd of June at New Tacoma Funeral Home, University Place, WA. Tom is survived by his mother Song and son Matthew.

04/27/2012 William A. Boyd Sad news to pass along, William "Bill" Boyd passed away on April 27th, 2012.

William A. Boyd, 64, of Medford, Ore., passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at home in his sleep. He was born February 12, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., to Malvin Andrew Boyd, of Bauge, Norway and Harriet Phyllis Harigan, of Waterloo, Iowa. He married Lynda Susan Rice on July 25, 1987, in Myrtle Creek, Ore.

His hobbies included sharing his faith in God, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, reading, movies, attending the annual Bridge School Concert with Neil and Peggy Young, with his life-long friends, Fred and Pat Gustafson, and traveling. His favorite pastime was just hanging out with Lynda wherever they happened to be.

William also served as national president, Rogue Valley Chapter president of the Sons of Thunder Christian Motorcycle Club; life member and past vice-commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter 147; and he was co-founder of the Reunited and Restored Fellowship "biker church" in Gold Hill, Ore.

He served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry from January 1968 to December 1969. He was the recipient of two Army Commendation Medals, a Vietnamese Gallentry Cross, a Purple Heart, as well as other medals and honors.

Survivors include wife, Lynda Boyd, of Medford, Ore.; children, Leif and Jovanna Boyd, of Roseville, Calif., Sabrina and Nathan Zink, of Samoa, Calif., Anthony Boyd and Kyra Skinner, of Medford, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Joseph Kuharik, of Vida, Ore., and their children, Anthony and Ann Quesada of Vida, Ore., and Joseph and Anne Kuharik of Linden, Calif.; Lynda's siblings, Andy Rice, of Ashland, Ore., Sharon Salamant, of Sautee-Nacoochee, Ga., and her children, Walter and Fang Salamant, of Ohio, and Mark Salamant, of Pennsylvania; Cathy and Barry Stiles, of Rabun Gap, Ga.; Carol Rice, of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Kelton, Kaius, Aidan, Landen, Alyssa and, Cambria; great nieces and nephews, Lydia, David, Ethan, Madison, and Rylan; and cousin, Phillip Severt, of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by cousin, Bruce Severt, of Chicago,Ill.; uncle, Norris Severt, and aunt Kay Severt, both of Arizona; and both parents.

A military ceremony at the Eagle Point National Cemetery will be held Friday, May 11, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. Anyone who wants to join the motorcycle escort (cars are welcome), meet at Conger-Morris Funeral Home at 767 S. Riverside Ave., Medford, OR at 2 pm. We will leave no later than 2:15 p.m. The ceremony will be short, so anyone who wants to can join the family at Miguel's Mexican Restaurant on Hwy 62 in Eagle Point afterward.

A Celebration of Life at Reinhart Volunteer Park (all-sports park) in Grants Pass, Ore., will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 4:00 p.m., at the Bank of America Shelter. If you can, please bring a dish of any kind to share. All friends of Bill and the family are welcome.

Chaplain/Pastor Josue Delgado of Providence Medford Medical Center and New Horizons Fellowship will be officiating both services. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to The Maslow Project (assists homeless teens), Hearts with a Mission (homeless teen shelter), or the Medford Gospel Mission, all of Medford, Ore.,

Bill had a wonderful life, except for his time in Vietnam. He had family and so many friends who loved and will miss him greatly. He leaves a huge hole in our tight-knit family, but he is at peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
