This update from Kathy Jacobsen Moran:
"I worked at Comdisco from 1980 - 1990. I was number 169 to be employed. I worked for one of Ken's buddies at college. when I worked for him he was on the front page of Wall Street, one of the top ten paid in the United States. that was the good old days. Before that I worked for Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co., I worked in promotion. Everyone loved me, I was the one who would walk into a bar and say Schlitz is on the house. I would get a case of beer every Friday. Schlitz always supplied their employees (you had to be in sales in order for that) it was a great job. I always worked St. Pat Parade downtown. I had to work the float. I would give my husband, I was just dating him at that time, buttons to pass out to the kids and he would pass them out to the girls. I also worked the first Taste of Chicago, worked the booth and passed out a lot of beer.

Before Schlitz, I worked as a buyer for Globe Wholesale (Toy Co) that was a lot of fun. I purchased stuffed animals. New York Toy Fair. It was short lived.

After Comdisco I was very lucky to be just mom and stay at home and volunteer a lot. I was on the PTO board, member, vice president and president when my son was in 8th Grade. I gave him his diploma. I'm a merit badge counselor for the boy scouts. My son is an eagle scout and received the only federal scholarship for ROTC at Southern. He wants to be an army officer. Since I was away from the work force for so long, I've been volunteering for the school district, I thought I would just stay, so now I'm on the payroll. I'm the receptionist now. I have an interview this week to be the secretary for the Director of MIS (computers). These teachers have a great program for retiring. My husband wants me to stay for the next 8 years, you get a pension and insurance. You have to pay for the insurance, but it's for cost of an employee. They have the best. Blue Cross Blue Shield and you go to any Dr you want and it's PPO. So my thought of going back to school are shut out of the window at the moment. I took one class this summer and hopefully will be taking another class this fall.

I'm not sure what I want to do next. The school is different and kind of fun. They party for everything. I'm a baker so they love me. I love to cook, I took all these cooking classes. I wanted to be a chef. The best class I took was in Paris at the Ritz. I went through the door that Princess Diane went through. So I make pastry, torte, cakes. I do everything for the family. I'm making a wedding cake for the principal at middle school here, I was his PTO President. He loves my cakes. His wife passes away the year I became his PTO President and his girlfriend is a real sweetheart. I'm happy for him. Thad and rex know i can cook. Thad tried to get me to work for Entenmanns. The Hyatt Regency in Rosemont asked me to do their brunches, just the bakery stuff. I said no - long hours. So I've kept busy."
