Here are Post-Reunion Comments from Rhonda
Hansen Warren:
"Whew! Well, THAT was fun! I sure hope you all had a great time. I did! There are a number of you with whom I had hoped to visit and never got the chance, and I regret that, but even just to see everybody, and to see everybody smiling, talking, laughing, and having a good time absolutely made my day! Linda Campbell was very generous to single me out for thanks in front of our assembly. I cannot say it enough that this reunion would not have happened without the foundation and framework provided by Gary Hedberg and his website work. Linda was good to recognize his incredible contribution! But mine? Perhaps I gave more hours to this event than anyone else, but I had them to give. And, truly, it was a pleasure to spend them on all of you. My memories of all of you are good ones! BUT I HAD HELP WITH THIS WORK, YOU KNOW! I wish I had had the presence of mind to publicly thank all of our contributors reunion evening, but I did not! Just so you know, Diane Knowles put together our huge initial mailing and got it out to all of you from her home in Texas. Diane also made tons of fun alumni buttons for us to wear at the football game on Friday! Mary Lang and Linda Campbell were in from the start.
They arranged for the parties at our two facilities, the 94th AeroSquadron for the icebreaker and the Village Grill and Tavern for our reunion dinner, as well as our overnight
accommodations at the Wyndham Hotel. Alixe Lischett generously donated the beer and wine for the hospitality suite, where many continued the party until 5:30 a.m. following the reunion! Diane Greven contacted radio and TV stations, as well as local papers to broadcast word of our reunion. All the way from California, Mark Neubauer coordinated a relaxing golf outing on Saturday for our sporting classmates. So many helped with the countless phone calls that needed to be made. And made again! Alixe Lischett, Diane Knowles, Mark Neubauer, Mary Lang, Linda Campbell, Skip Tubbs, Terri Zaehler, and Teri White were in on that effort with me! Bev Koeppen helped us out on reunion evening as a greeter along with Teri White. So many others helped, too, whether it was offering encouragement, advice, or tracking down a piece of information needed to locate someone. So, as I was thanked reunion evening, I, in turn, offer a huge thank you to all these people I've mentioned and to the ones I've surely forgotten! The tremendously fun weekend we just enjoyed would not have taken place without the many minds and hands and voices that worked together to fashion it! See you in five, everyone! And by the way, I plan to spend the next five years hunting down the classmates we never found. YOU plan to keep in touch with me or the website so we know where you are come 2005! Okay?
Thanks!"

This in from Karen
Pruden Smith: "I would of loved to have been with all of you at the 30th reunion, but, since I'm still recovering from cancer surgery and still have a trach, I thought it better to stay put. I also became a first time Grandmother, my daughter Rhiannon (yea, Fleetwood Mack song.) age 22, had a baby boy Nicholas Dale Anderson on August 28, 2000. Grandma is busy spoiling him, Mom and baby are doing just great. Hopefully, I will be able to attend the next reunion. Take care, and you'll write or e-mail me, be glad to hear from all of you. Karen (Pruden) Smith."

This last minute news in from Mardi
Drake Gruber "Sorry
I won't be attending the reunion but I'm sure it will be a
blast. Though I attended WHS only my senior year, I have fond
memories and made quite a few good friends. After getting my
teaching degree, I decided I didn't want to teach. Got a degree
in Dental Hygiene and have been enjoying dentistry for the last
20 years. Even met my husband in my dental chair! We have 9
year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and our youngest, a daughter,
is 5 years old and just starting Kindergarten. While many of you
are empty-nesting or nearly so, we are earning our parenting
wings still. Thank goodness we had time to travel and feel the
freedom before the children came into our lives. Life is
good!" |
This in from Gail Dickson Mancuso
: "I may have the youngest child. Besides having a 7 year old
grand-daughter, my husband and I have a 4 year old son of our own."

The more I think I know the more I find out I'm full of crap. Wheeling H.S. class of 70 was the cream of all classes. We owned the school. We ruled. We rocked. It was a great formative time. Great academics, great instructors and good friends. Mrs Fitzer, Jerry Doyle, Mr. Thiessen, Grady,! Nettlehorst, Biebergull, Elaine Prisuita, Steve Trainor. Crushes included Claudia Claeys, Roberta Lundgren, Nancy Lindsay, Kathy Pinnel, Sue Rank, Kathy Samaras, and Debbie Zukowski. Friends were the noted Thespian James E. Hand, Bob Osterlund, Bill Ross. Noted are the Meyer twins, Bob Lord and Randy Kopper. It's a time frozen in memory for the ages. Life moves forward and it's all part of what got me to where I am today..a good part." |

News Flash from Fran McCarty
: "I didn't know very many people at Wheeling...but if anyone asks you
can tell them that life has been good and I have only gotten boring in the last few years. I have been down a colorful career path since graduating from SIU in 1974....My resume includes teaching juvenile
delinquents, working pari-mutuals at Churchill Downs and other Kentucky race tracks, selling motorcycle stuff, selling pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and supplies. I did finally get serious about working for
a living when I decided to become a tool and die maker and went back to school for five years while working full time. The injection molding industry has been good to me since then. I am currently a tooling
engineer for Breed Technologies. We make seat belts for Ford, Chrysler, and GM and anyone else who will pay for them. Live near Douglas, Arizona, actually about 20 miles out in the desert where the sky is so big you can see tomorrow and the stars are so close you can reach out and touch them....Never got married or had any kids, I guess I was just having too much fun. I really like living alone in the desert, but I also like a good party from time to time and it sounds like you have one planned for the Class of '70. I haven't given up. I'll let you know if I can make it!"

Update from Gary
Schweitzer :
"Hello Everyone!!! I have 3 children. Steve 23 living in Colorado, Jason 20, and Allison 18, both living in Cary, Illinois. They are doing Great and have caused me little to no trouble, so what else can a parent ask for?? I currently live in Arizona, but planning on moving back as it is just TO HOT HERE FOR
ME. I have been a project engineer for various companies over the years such as Baxter Labs, Sage Products, and True Value Hardware.
Some of the things I remember from my days at Wheeling was getting Alfie Stavros mad and seeing his reactions on anything just to piss him off. (which by the way was very easy to do) And bouncing Alfie off the moveable wall partition in wrestling practice. ( I learned some choice swear words from him I never new before) Ha, I am laughing right now as I think about it.... AND of course Dan
Hull and I ditching school every opening day to go to Wrigley Field and hoping we were not seen on TV. ( as of course we were both SICK
from school) And then driving back from Wrigley in my 56 Chevy when the carburetor went bad and I had to operate the brake and clutch pedals while Dan had to scoot over to goose the gas pedal every time
I had to come to a stop so the car would not stall and die out....Now
that's teamwork. It also uses about 3/4 tank of gas in 45 miles. We got
a lot of funny looks as we were like the 2 stooges trying to keep that car running."

Kristeen and my grand daughter Kennedy are getting a place of their own in Sept and Katie is off to college. I spend my free time painting or woodworking. I've created a few pieces that my children will probably toss in the dumpster when I'm not looking. Looking forward to laughing together with old friends and telling stories I have forgotten all

News
from Marilyn Castiglione
Lemke:
"I am divorced after 19 year of marriage to John Lemke, class of 66. I have three daughters: Jessica 22, who graduated from college this past May: Stephanie 21, a
senior at IL State Univ.: and Megan, 11 entering 6th grade and playing any sport she can. When my oldest two were both in college I went back to school full time and finished my degree. I remember in High School I would do anything to get out of P.E.. Now I can teach it. I haven't used my degree in P.E. because I was offered a good job teaching high school students with learning disabilities. I am working on my masters in school administration. My goal is to become a principal, or a directorship with the YMCA. I have worked at our local YMCA for 17 years. I teach fitness classes, including kickboxing, personal training, adult aquatics, youth swim lessons and private swim lessons. I am very active and never sit still. Along with my full time teaching job I work two part-time jobs. One being the YMCA, the other waitressing. I live out in the middle of nowhere. I can look in any direction and see open fields all around me. I do have one neighbor that is only two-tenths of a mile away. All the rest are at least a mile or more. I live smack dab in the middle of my ex-husbands farm. I have the house on one and a quarter acres along with an 1861 school house. Some day I hope to move from here. But for now it is home to my girls. They are asking about funny stories. Chris Moore if you read this I hope you find it as comical now as the three of us did when we were laughing at you. Prom,
Senior year. Chris Moore went with Don Lemke and Jack Schuett and I doubled with them. We went to the country club golf course I can't
remember the name. It was at Rand and Euclid. We were seated by the large glass windows. Don and Jack brought us back
hors d'ouvers from a buffet table. Chris was trying her hardest to be the proper lady. She tried to cut a pickle spear with her fork. The pickle shot off her plate, hit the window, went flying across the room and bounced on the carpet. Don ,Jack and I were laughing so hard we were crying. Chris was extremely mad at us for laughing. I hope to see some
familiar faces in October." |

First
contact from Rick Holman.
Here is what Rick had to say: " Joanne
and I have 2 children. Bobby is 22 and Richy is 12. Bobby and his wife
Dara had a baby Girl on 01/30/2000 named Hana Rose which
made us grandparents for the first time. It seems
to me a lot of the guys I hung out with were all missing on picture
day like me!"
