Edward Nemeth Ph.D.
Class of 1970
Edward F. Nemeth, Ph.D. is presently the
Chief Scientific Officer at NPS Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. He holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Psychology
from Lawrence University, a M.A. in Psychology from
Princeton University, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology
from Yale University. Dr. Nemeth was a postdoctoral
fellow in Neurobiology at the National Institutes of
Health and in Biochemistry and Biophysics at the
University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Nemeth's principal
research activities are focused on the pharmacology
of receptors, particularly G protein-coupled
receptors. In 1986, he proposed the existence of
calcium receptors - cell surface receptors which
enable certain cells in the body to detect and
respond to small changes in the concentration of extracellular calcium. At NPS Pharmaceuticals, Dr.
Nemeth established and led the team that discovered
the first molecules that act selectively on the
calcium receptor and coined the terms "calcimimetic"
and "calcilytic" to describe agonists and
antagonists of this receptor, respectively.

Yet another Mini-Reunion in southern Arizona. This time
at The Steakout Restaurant and Saloon in Sonoita, AZ.
Rhonda Hansen Warren
'70 and myself, met up with
Jesse Escamilla '69, along
with his wife Anna, and his sisters
Bertha Escamilla Wilson
'66 (no yearbook picture) and her husband Brad Wilson, and Connie
Escamilla 72. This restaurant has been the site where many
movie stars hung out while filming westerns in Old Tucson. The
likes of James Arness (Matt Dillion, Gunsmoke), Dan Blocker (Hoss
Cartwright, Bonanza), and Lee Marvin to name a few. We didn't see
any of those actors there :-). The steaks were delicious, but if you go
to The Steakout order your steak more well done then you normally would.
Here are some pictures from the event...

Another Mini-Reunion! Michael
Fiddick '69 and his show band
"New Odyssey" came out to
the wild and woolly west to play some shows in Arizona. One of
these performances was in Tucson.
Rhonda Hansen Warren '70, and I went to see Michael's band.
I'll tell you right now, if you get a chance to see "New Odyssey" you
will be amazed at the talent Michael, Gary Todd, and Gary Polkow (both
are also Chicago suburbs boys) display. These 3 phenomenal entertainers
give you the performance of a life time, playing 30 different musical
instruments during their show! "New Odyssey" plays at many of the
city-fests around the Chicago suburbs. Anyway, here are some
pictures of us and Michael's band...
