10/15/2015 Steve Papanek I was just informed that Steve Papanek passed away on October 10th in Helena, Montana.  Steve didn't have a senior picture in the yearbook in 1970.  I had to go back to his Junior year to find a picture.  Steve passed away from cancer.  Steve has two other brothers who were WHS students.  Dennis Papanek '69, and Marty Papanek '71.  Steve also had two younger sisters but I don't think they graduated from WHS.  Here is Steve's obituary from the Helena news paper:
Stephen Papanek, 63, of Helena, passed away Oct. 10, 2015. He was born Jan. 28, 1952, in Melrose Park, Illinois.

Stephen served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He received two associate degrees from Carroll College. Stephen loved the outdoors and also working on cars. He was one that liked to keep things simple. The best statement to describe Stephen is “He cared about the world in his own special way.”

He was preceded by his father, John Papanek. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie June (Briggs) Papanek of Glendale, Arizona; two brothers: Dennis Papanek of Glendale; and Martin Papanek of Woodstock, Illinois; two sisters: Sandra Poisson of Phoenix, Arizona; and Leann Harwartz of Evanston, Illinois. He is also survived by nieces Sarah Papanek, Brittany Williams, Beth Papanek and Kelly Papanek; nephews Erick Papanek and Robert Williams.

Cremation has taken place and private services are planned. Family requests memorials to charity of your choice. To offer condolences to the family, please visit http://helenair.com/news/local/obituaries/papanek-stephen/article_abca18e0-0627-5438-927d-f3b2e62f45c4.html
