More sad news has come my way. I'm sorry to have to report that Karen Pruden Smith passed away on July 20, 2013. Karen was part of two graduating classes. She started at WHS with the class of 1970, but didn't matriculate until 1972. Karen didn't have a senior picture in either yearbook so I am posting her junior year picture from 1969.

I received this email from Karen's sister Kathy Pruden Ferguson '71, "let you know, my sister Karen passed on July 20th 2013...She had her 2nd battle with cancer. The first battle was with cancer of the throat, had radical surgery , and said to be a cancer survivor,diagnosed. was in 2000 and lived life, took trips, went places etc. In 2012 she was diagnosed with cancer of the lung,stage 3b, stage 4 is end-stage..She had a rough time with this, and a few days before she passed she said she was tired and ready to go to heaven..... Karen was in the hospital and my younger sister was with her and said she passed peacefully"

The second picture is of Karen from about 2002 after she had her first throat surgery for cancer.

Rest in Peace Karen.

Sad news to pass along. WHS chemistry teacher Lewis Bowles passed away on March 2, 2013.
