Here is what Lois had to offer, "I am employed at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN as the Operations Coordinator for Gift Processing in the Development Office. My husband John works across the street at the University of Notre Dame as an Applications Technologist. We live on a small inland lake in Michigan and love boating and golfing. We have no children but spoil our great nieces a lot."

First e-mail from John Serra and Patricia Geffe Serra. John and Pat live in Brookfield, WI. John & Pat offered this information, "Pat Geffe and I met at Wheeling High School Junior year and we have been married 30 years. We have two sons Brian and Jeff they are both married (Brian Oct 27,2001).We tried to make all the reunions and still look back at our days at Wheeling with great memories. As you all know I was a Football, Basketball and Baseball star at Wheeling. Well, I made the team. Not bad for a 155# tackle, I did gain some weight. Pat was on drill team. I always enjoyed those cowgirl uniforms. I have been in the metal casting industry for 30 years and have had the privilege to serve on many technical committees, write trade magazine articles, do a little teaching, and now I am serving as president of the American Foundry Society, Wisconsin Chapter and on the Board of Directors of the Cast Metals Institute. Pat supported us in our early years of marriage and raised two wonderful boys. She spends most of her time taking care of her parents. She loves flowers and goes crazy at Christmas decorating our house. We enjoy skiing, fishing, travel, driving my 87 Corvette and going to Badger football games. If it wasn't for Wheeling High School Pat and I would have never met. Hope you are all doing well."

First e-mail from Skip Grandt. Here is news Skip wanted to share, "Hi everyone! First time I have seen the website and I am really impressed by how many have contributed to it. Still living in the area (Arlington Heights for the last 19 years) and loving it! Sharon (nee Koeppen whs-'68) and I have been married for 32 years and have two wonderful daughters. Kelly will be 26 in January and is just about finished obtaining her doctorate in Psychology. Will start her internship next May. Kris just turned 24 and is in her second year of teaching 6th grade at Central Road School in Rolling Meadows. Both continue to live at home (so much for being empty nesters!). Serious boyfriends in each of their lives, but no engagements to announce YET.

Not using my left arm to pitch anymore, just play racquetball. That was interrupted for the past 6 months as I had to undergo chemotherapy treatments for Leukemia. I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Luekemia in November of 1999, but until March of this year, did not need any treatment. Went pretty well and didn't even lose my hair! (Kristine INSISTS that it is MUCH THINNER now, which I dispute emphatically!). Blood counts are down, but my bone marrow doesn't want to cooperate. Again, I am feeling fine, just need to be careful. I hope to hear from any and all of you! I'll try to write to as many of youthat I can. Take care and God Bless."

Found Richard Nordby. Richard is living in AZ. Richard offered up this info, "I went on to Wisconsin State but did too much partying and dropped out for a semester. Then I went to Palatine JC but after 1 semester the draft board caught up with me. I enlisted in the navy and spent the better part of the next 4 years on aircraft carriers bombing North Vietnam. I came to Arizona after that and have lived here ever since." [233].

Toni provided these memories of WHS, "I have great memories of WHS- drill team, any of Mr Ecker's classes, being sent to the VP's, Mr. Miller's office by Mr. Nelson for a practical joke gone awry, etc. Even though I switched to Cary Grove Community HS. in my senior year, my heart really belongs to WHS. I'm sorry that I can't attend the 2001 Homecoming reunion. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun." [236].

Brenda and I were married in 1974, and have a daughter Beri, born in 1976. We have hopped around a little, finally settling in the Northwest in 1986. I teach middle school math in St. Helen's, OR, with no plans to retire anytime soon."

I'm saddened to report that Linda Campbell Warfel passed away yesterday (08/18/2001) from complications of Multiple Sclerosis and Leukemia. Linda is survived by her husband, Butch, and two sons, both in their 20's; as well as her parents. Rest in Peace Linda...we'll all miss you!

Found Sharon Carter Green. Sharon and her husband are living in Sarasota, FL. Here is what Sharon offered, "Thanks a lot for your e-mail. I immediately looked up your entire url/pages. Thanks a lot. My high school name was indeed Sharon Carter and I did graduate in 67. While visiting my son, who lives in Evanston now, I dropped by the old school and my hubby took pictures of me in front of the school. After high school, I lived shortly in Long Beach, California then moved with my parents to Louisville, Kentucky. I married in 1972 and am still married to the same wonderful guy. We have 2 sons. We moved to St. Louis in 1986 and lived there until 1999. We lived in the Chesterfield area there. In 2000, we moved to Sarasota, Florida, where i am writing to from. It was funny reminiscing about WHS catching up, although brief, about old schoolmates. [238].

I have worked for United Airlines for a total of 33 years and will be celebrating my 34th year in February of next year. My parents still live in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Found Jackie Elnor Johnson through Classmates.com. Jackie has lived in Canada since 1980! She is currently living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jackie had this to say: "Thanks so much for your reply -- it is good to know that there are others who have fond memories of good old WHS. My year, the 67s, were bused off to Mt. Prospect for the first year (as you can imagine, that lead to plenty of adolescent rivalry under one roof) then, as sophomores, came to our brand new school which at that time seemed HUGE. And in the middle of what had recently been a corn field. I have lost touch with everyone. The person I hoped to find again, Melanie Van Petten Brody, was last sighted in San Francisco. She and I pretty much ran the student paper in our days there (we liked to think we also ran R.A. Nelson -- the journalism teacher. Remember him?) Thanks for reminding me. Those were good days..." and in a susequent messsage: "Stayed in Pennsylvania (where parents moved in 67) for BA, then went to South Dakota State and taught journalism while earning MS in Communications. Married in '82 - now have a son about to graduate high school and this month our family moved to Winnipeg. Have worked as writer and editor, have one book published, and am writing the next one. Writing assignments have brought me to Chicagoland only once, and I wasn't there long enough to get back to Wheeling -- but hope to make it for the reunion in October....Regards, Jackie (Elnor) Johnson"

I decided to change the handling of those on the PENDING list. To be moved from the Lost List to the PENDING list, I had to have found an alumni's listing on Classmates.com, or Alumni.net, or Highschoolalumni.com, or have been given contact information from another source. I would put PENDING as their address and that would take them off the MISSING list. However I found that many people didn't respond to e-mails sent to them from Classmates.com or other sources, so I've decided to implement a new rule of thumb. I will keep names in the PENDING list for 3 months. If they do not respond in that time, their PENDING status will be removed and they will go back on the missing list. I don't want to be misleading with the number of people who are found. I will publish a separate table of those on the PENDING list on the same page as the Missing List from now on.

Here is what Mary's been up to, "After I got my BA in English from U of I (C-U), I went to grad school in Canada, lived and taught in Spain and moved to CA where I ended up running a restaurant. When the owner retired I went to grad school again. This time I actually got a degree in Teaching English as a second language (MATESOL). Since then I've taught at Mills college and a few summers in Japan. Currently I'm on a leave of absence (knee surgery) from University of San Francisco where I've been teaching ESL classes and Freshman Writing." [229].
