12/16/2011 Anthony Kuhn I was informed today that Anthony "Tony" Kuhn passed away this last September after losing his battle with cancer.  Tony had moved to Jamacia several years ago after his wife Carol died at age 48.  Tony had no other siblings that went to WHS.

12/16/2011 Joe Goffman More sad news for the class of 1967.  Joe Goffman passed away today after a long battle with cancer.  Joe has younger siblings that graduated from WHS: Ron Goffman '68, and Carie Goffman '76

Joseph "Joe" E Goffman, 62, of Elgin, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 4, 1949 in Chicago, the son of Leon and Catherine (Lightbecker) Goffman.

Joseph was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Northern Illinois University and Harper College, was an avid White Sox fan. Joe was also known as Pizza Joe, having owned and operated Winner's Circle Pizza in Waterman Illinois. He will be truely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving wife Ami to whom he was married to on October 14, 1972 in Bloomfield, NJ.
Children- Kale (Sarah) Goffman of Poplar Grove, IL KJ (Blair) Lehman of Elgin
Brothers- Ronald (Nancy) Goffman and Michael (Tracey) Goffman
Sisters- Carrie (George) Sertzel and Roxanne (David) Roxane Goffman Fritsch
Grand dog- Daisy

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Bluff City Cemetary. Memorial visitation will follow on Wednesday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the Laird Funeral home in Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. 11/05/2011 Charles Nute I was informed today, that Charles Nute passed away on October 26th, 2011.  I have no other details about Charles' passing at this time.  Charles also had a younger brother Mark Nute '73.  Mark passed away in 2002.

07/29/2011 Bruce Land Sad news to have to convey, 

HERRIN -- Bruce Wayne Land, 62, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at his family home.


Bruce was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Chicago, the son of James E. and Jean F. (Pelz) Land.

He married Cathy L. (Castleman) on April 1, 1977, in Marion.

Bruce was a radiological technologist at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

He was a veteran proudly serving in the navy.

He was an avid model railroader.

He is survived by his mother, Jean F. Land of Herrin; his wife, Cathy L. Land of Herrin; two daughters, Leslie Light and husband, Jeremy, of Perryville, Mo.; and Michelle Land of Herrin and boyfriend, Aaron Pryer; and four grandchildren, Owen Light, Mason Light, Lauren Light, and Jackson Light.

He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Land.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Herrin American Legion and the Illinois Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society . Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
