I just received sad news that Gaila Preisler passed away on October
21, 2005. Gaila also has a younger brother Don Preisler '76.
This information came from Gaila's husband
Bob Slaughter. Here is what
Bob had to say
My wife, (Gaila) Gail Preisler - Slaughter
passed away on October 21, 2005. She gracefully crossed over.
She had cancer for many years. Her high spirit & natural
ways allowed her to live far beyond conventional doctors
expectations. She was a beautiful woman, an amazing artist, a
loving & caring mother, & a true friend to many. I love her &
miss her so.

Rest in Peace Gaila

I am equally saddened to hear that Lynn Allison
Slater passed away on June 5th, 2005 after a long battle with cancer.
This information was provided by
Chuck Slater, Lynn's husband. Lynn's brother
Don Allison is also a WHS
alumnus, class of 1970. Chuck also sent these words along...
We were
married in Dec 1973 in Mt. Prospect. We have three children;
Brandi (Mrs. Jeff Voigt) (30), Matt (Kara)(28) and Ken (14), and
three grandchildren, Tyler (5) and Courtney (2) Voigt and Kathan
(6 months) Slater. We lived in Rolling Meadows, Barrington Hills
and South Barrington while I worked for Cook County Forest
Preserve Police. She worked at clerical positions but mainly was
a homemaker for the 5 of us. After I retired in 2002, we had a
house built in Cortland Il (by DeKalb) to be near our grandkids.
Lynn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She first
developed breast cancer in 1997 when Ken was just entering
kindergarten. She went thru treatment and was "cured" after 5
years. In July 04 she was diagnosed with stage 4 uterine cancer
and was unable to beat it. She died peacefully in her sleep on
Sunday morning, June 5th 2005 here at home, with her family at
her side. |
Rest in Peace Lynn |

Quick note from
Janel Ketelsen:
I took a 3 day break for myself and went to Madison, WI to
an Art Fair, where Jim Wilbat
was there, there were 500 artists for all over the US, it was a
huge show, and it was great for me to see Jim. I also have a new
grandson, this is the forth, his name is Tate Andrew, he was
born June 29, my daughter and son-in-law are very happy. My
daughter always said she wanted four kids, their ages are Cale
7, Alec 5, Gage 22 months, and now the new baby. I'm very proud
of my daughter for all she has accomplished, she is also a nurse
at a nearby hospital. Which she was attending school while
expecting her third baby. |

Yet another Mini-Reunion in southern Arizona. This time
at The Steakout Restaurant and Saloon in Sonoita, AZ. Connie
Escamilla, and her sister
Bertha Escamilla Wilson
'66 (no yearbook picture) and her husband Brad Wilson,
and their brother, Jesse
Escamilla '69, along with his wife Anna; met up with myself and
Rhonda Hansen '70.
This restaurant has been the site where many movie stars hung out while
filming westerns in Old Tucson. The likes of James Arness (Matt
Dillion, Gunsmoke), Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright, Bonanza),
and Lee Marvin to name a few. We didn't see any of those actors there
:-). The steaks were delicious, but if you go to The Steakout order your
steak more well done then you normally would. Here are some
pictures from the event...

Bob Peterson sent in a change of address. He now lives in Pace, FL.
He also sent along these comments:
Married to Wendy Taylor since 1982. Two children Megan 15 and
Brandon 10. Currently COO with HCA West Florida Hospital in
Pensacola, Florida. Lived to say we survived Hurricane Ivan on
September 16, 2004. Ivan was a low Category 4 storm when it came
ashore in the early morning hours. Started at WHS in 1968 at 4'11"
and 90 lbs. Graduated in 1972 at 5'8" and 135 lbs. Currently, 6'2"
and 195 lbs. I really could have used this size at WHS for chasing
sports and girls. I actually grew more than Roger Wood did during
high school.
Where does the time go?
Recently have made contact with classmates as a result of finding
this website. THANKS!! |

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm glad I found this
website one day while doing a random search on "Wheeling High
School" to see what would come up...
Everything you ever wanted to know about Donna Noller but were
afraid to ask? Never mind! Ok, how about - everything Donna wants to
admit to and will tell you? (Bingo!)
Married my next door neighbor in Lake Villa at the (too) tender age
of 19 - we had 2 boys - Will and Sean - and divorced in 1983. I
remarried (happily) in 1988, and had 2 more children - Brandon and
Samantha. Kids are all bright and much better behaved than I was,
and are now 28, 25, 15 and 11, and I am the proud grandma of 1 year
old Finnegan who lives with my oldest son and his wife near Port
Townsend, Washington - a place I visit as often as I can!
I currently work in Marketing Communications for Baxter Healthcare;
my hobbies include acting in live theatre (will be playing "Lady
Macbeth" at PM&L Theatre in Antioch for first 3 weekends in February
of 2005); singing (a rock band called "Crow's Feet"); writing (have
a published book and play; wrote a humor column for a group of 11
newspapers for 7 years, then tired of it.) As you can see, my
hobbies are much more interesting than my job - if only my hobbies
would pay better!!
Memories of WHS (the ones I can repeat, anyhow)? The day we girls
protested dress codes and all came to school in pants instead of
dresses; ditch day, when nearly the entire school went to the Cubs
opener (Milton Berle was there that day); Jack Sayres (Jocko)
claiming to be from another planet and promising to give everyone
"fuzz!" (rest in peace, Jack); phony bomb threat calls (funny then,
not so funny now); Pat Patterson's Volkswagen with the hole in the
floor (reminded me of the Flintstonemobile); "mooning" incidents in
the parking lot; hanging out at Dog 'n Suds; Gary McQueen's
imaginary dog "Spot" (thanks, Gary, for providing my first ever
motorcycle ride!); "modular scheduling", which actually gave us too
much time on our hands to sneak out of school and indulge in less
appropriate classes of our own, such as how to make pipes out of
cardboard coat hangers (so I hear, ha, ha!); and...well, I think
that's enough!
Hope to run into some of you soon, and I'll keep checking the site
for interesting news or get togethers. Hope each and everyone one of
you is healthy and happy!

Some news from Donna Noller
Abear:
Hi everyone,
You may or may not remember me (and I may or may not remember you!),
but I thought it might be fun to gather all the e-mails of
classmates who might be within driving distance of Buffalo Grove
(got them from the Class of 72 website page), send this out, and see
who shows up.
My maiden name is Donna Noller, and I was a Class of 72 Wheeling
High School student. I moved to Fox Lake my senior year, so didn't
get to graduate with you (much to my disappointment), but still
think of myself as a Wheeling grad anyhow, and I do see a handful of
my WHS classmates regularly.
I'm a married Mom of 4, grandma of 1, and rather reluctant to
totally grow up, so I continue to ignore my age and keep my sense of
fun and excitement by performing in a classic rock band with my
husband. I've been in bands off and on over the years, but this one
is by far the most special (i.e. most talented members), and is a 6
piece band, all 6 of whom are also vocalists, and the music we
perform is 95% stuff we grew up hearing - Fleetwood Mac, CCR, The
Eagles, CSN, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Simon and
Garfunkel, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, etc.
The name of the band is "Crow's Feet", and we'll be performing at
Bumpers Billards & Pub (McHenry Rd or Rte. 83 in Buffalo Grove) on
Friday, January 21st, starting at 9:00 pm. You can visit our website
to find out a little more about the band (and click on the video
link, to download video/music clips from some recent concerts we
performed at a theatre in our area).
Hope to see some familiar faces on Friday at Bumpers, and thought it
might be a good excuse to get a WHS crowd out for a night! I've
attached a flyer for you to keep as a reminder if you plan to come
out.
Best regards,
Donna Abear (Noller)
Crow's Feet band member
