12/02/2012   I am saddened to report that Dr. Tom Shirley passed early Sunday morning Dec. 2, 2012. Services for Dr. Shirley will be at 11:00AM Thursday Dec. 6th at the Orchard Evangelical Free church in Arlington Heights. I am certain more information will be available in the Daily Herald tomorrow or the next day. I thought you would like to know.

DR. THOMAS WILLIAM SHIRLEY

Dr. Thomas William Shirley of Prospect Heights for 52 years Dr. Thomas William Shirley was born on May 7, 1930, in Milford, Mass., to Ralph B. and Florence Ellen (nee Morris ) Shirley. He went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012. Thomas was a retired Naval Reserves captain having served his country for 43 years, two of which were active duty during the Korean War as an officer on the destroyer U.S.S. Renshaw DDE499. He received his doctorate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston. He was an educator in School District 214 for 34 years, serving as Principal at Wheeling High School for 25 years. During his tenure in District 214, he began the ROTC Program, the TORCH Program (OMNI), and contributed to the continuing education night school program. He was a member at Orchard Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, where he served in various ministries. Tom was actively involved with the Rotary Club of Wheeling, Salvation Army, and the Dollars For Scholars Program. He loved to spend time with his family, and his greatest pride his grandchildren and was loved by all. Thomas is survived by his spouse, Linda of 56 years, whom he married on Aug. 11, 1956; his children, Scott (Kristine) Shirley, Stephen Shirley, David Shirley and Philip (Andra) Shirley; his grandchildren, Thomas, Samantha, Sierra, Luke, Michael and Logan; and his half-brothers and sisters, Mary Jane, Rita, David and Giles. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Manny; his half-sister, Cindy McLean; and his brother, Ralph Bramlet Shirley. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 N. Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004, or the Salvation Army, salvationarmyusa.org. 06/11/2012 I just received the sad news that Kurt Lau, passed away on February 27, 2007.  Kurt didn't have a senior picture in the yearbook.  Kurt had no other siblings that went to WHS that I'm aware of.  I did find his obituary in the San Diego news paper's website:

Kurt L. Lau, 53, of San Diego died Feb. 27. He was born in Oak Park, Ill., and was a crane operator.

Survivors include his wife, Dana Lau; daughter, Danielle Lau; parents, Dorothy and Larry Lau; sisters, Pamela Hester and Penny Valzano; and brother, Kevin Lau.

Services: have been held.

Karen D. Kneip of Algonquin for 21 years Karen D. Kneip (nee Janezic), 58, was born April 3, 1954, in Chicago, and she passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012. She was the loving daughter of Kaye and the late Frank Janezic of Prospect Heights; beloved mother of Krista and Michael Kneip of Algonquin; and dear sister of Frank (Lynda) Janezic of Lake Barrington. Memorial visitation will be Saturday, May 5, from 1:30 p.m. until time of the memorial Mass at 2 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 411 N. Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made toward the furthering of her children's education. Arrangements were made by Cremation Society of Illinois. For information, 847-577-6505.

01/21/2012 Bill J. Morrissey Sad news to pass along early this year. Bill "Irish" Morrissey passed away 01/21/2012.  One of Bill's older sisters Mary Jane Morrissey is a WHS '68 grad.

William Joseph "Irish" Morrisey Jr., age 58, of Round Lake, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his home.

He was born November 14, 1953 in Evanston to William Joseph Sr. and Genevieve (Sontag) Morrisey.

A resident of Round Lake for the past 12 years, he was a truck driver by profession. He drove for Lenzini Excavating and Berger Excavating Companies.

An avid motorcycle rider, he was the owner of a Harley Davidson and also a Gold Wing motorcycle. He was a member of the Warrior Watch, which is affiliated with the Wauconda American Legion Post #911. Other enjoyments included spending time with his family and golfing.

He is survived by three children, Shannon (Eric) Lasky of Carol Stream, Billy Morrisey of Kenosha, and Emily Morrisey of Arlington Heights; two grandchildren, Blaine and Blair; two sisters and a brother, Barbara Morrisey of Vonore, TN, Michael (Margo) Morrisey of Schaumburg, and Mary Jane (Bob) Yach of West Bend, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may visit with his family from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073. The funeral blessing will be at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy O’Malley officiating.

The cremation rite was accorded privately and inurnment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Chicago.
