John Liljeberg Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd. on Dec. 21, 2023.

John Liljeberg
Of Arlington Heights
John Robert Liljeberg, more commonly known as Jack, born on January 12, 1932, was the son of the late Hjalmer and Mary Liljeberg. He was the younger brother of the late Howard Liljeberg and Lois Liljeberg and twin brother of Richard Liljeberg. He was married to his loving wife, the late Mary Ann Liljeberg, for 67 years.

He is survived by his four children: Pamela (Richard) Kobler, Susan (Paul) Thoms, Jeffrey (Ellen) Liljeberg and Julie Liljeberg; his grandchildren Jim (Tara) Bachelder, Jacob Kobler, Kelsey (Sam) Rabuck and Lucas Kobler, Rachel and Melanie Thoms and Jack and Kelly Liljeberg; as well as his loving extended family members.

Jack earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. In Macomb, he taught Social Sciences and Physical Education, met and married Mary Ann Kiesig and had three children; Pamela, Susan and son Jeffrey. After accepting a teaching position at Wheeling High School, he and his family moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois and then had another daughter, Julie.

After settling in Arlington Heights, Jack's main focus was providing for his family. He taught U.S. History and Physical Education and became the Varsity head football coach. Both he and Mary Ann were also heavily involved in all their children's activities. They loved to travel and were able to take their kids to all the places they dreamed of going like Disney World and Disneyland, cross country trips to California and various beach vacations. To be able to afford these vacations, Jack took on several additional jobs such as coaching football, wrestling and golf as well as Drivers Education.

As a result of their hard work ethic, Jack and Mary Ann were able to retire at the age of 55. During their retirement years, they spent time traveling to Arizona every spring, tailgating at University of Illinois football games with friends, and following their youngest daughter to her various softball tournaments throughout the United States. Jack loved all things sports, especially golf, which he would play whenever he got the chance. If he wasn't participating in sports, he was coaching or watching them. Gardening was also a passion of his and he spent many hours taking care of the yard and planting flowers and vegetables.

Jack was a family man. When his kids grew up and had their own children, he would always be in attendance at his grandchildren's birthday parties, dance recitals, musical performances, plays, and many sporting events.

After living a long life filled with love and laughter, Jack passed away at the age of 91 on December 17th, 2023. Visitation is Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd, 1520 N. Arlington Hts. Rd, Arlington Hts. from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Service will follow from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Interment immediately follows at St John's UCC Cemetery.

07/14/2023 Rick Hoffman The WHS Class of 1972 lost another classmate to heaven. Rick Hoffman, age 69, passed away on July 14, 2023 at his home in Kuna, Idaho

Rick was born May 12, 1954 to Fred and Helen (Cajka) Hoffman at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago, Illinois. He attended Mark Twain Elementary School, Jack London Junior High School, and Wheeling High School in the Chicago suburb of Wheeling, Illinois. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Carlson, on March 2, 1974. Rick and Peggy met while both held after school jobs at the local K-Mart store. They were married for 49 years and raised two daughters.

While employed by Culligan Water Systems he earned an Associates Degree in business management from Lake Forest College.

Rick enjoyed a 35-year career in the water treatment industry, during which time he developed and manufactured reverse osmosis water treatment systems and received a patent for his designs. His work took him and his family from Illinois to Minneapolis and to Los Angeles. After retiring in 2017, he and Peggy moved to Kuna, Idaho.

Rick enjoyed scuba diving, woodworking, gardening, travel, wine tasting and spoiling his grandchildren. In 2007 he took his mother on a trip to Tahiti, where he literally dived with sharks, and has the video to prove it. A business trip to Brazil made a great impression on him. Over the years he and Peggy visited Belize, Mexico, Canada, Florida, Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Las Vegas and New Mexico. They made a once in a lifetime trip to Prague, Czech Republic, the homeland of his maternal grandparents, in 2019. In 2022, he was confirmed as a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa, Idaho.

06/26/2023 Karen Kristine Gilbert Anderson Karen Anderson Obituary

Karen Kristine Anderson passed away on Saturday, June 10th at 3:40AM. She had struggled for years with Diabetes, NPH, and ESRD and was finally taken by Autoimmune Encephalitis. She was only 69 and lived a full life.

Karen was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota by Catherine and James, both of whom have passed.

After graduating from Wheeling HS in 1972, she went on to study computer sciences and language but never received her degree. Karen used her creative skills to become a cosmetologist but never really did more than help friends and family with haircuts because she started at the United States Post office, where she spent 35 years and after becoming a letter carrier. Became a supervisor, was an OIC in Cary Fox River Grove office and finally settled in the Libertyville Post Office.

On September 4th, 1983, she was wed to Michael Anderson and in 1987 had a son named Travis James Anderson. Karen went out of her way to be the most caring mother ever and loved fully her son Travis! She was a fantastic and truly nurturing mother that always had loving things to say to Travis and supported him 100%!

Karen was an accomplished crafter to the point where she and her husband would show their work and developed a business from it. Karen's heart always went out to others that had needs or were just down on their luck. Between the kids that lived in their house when they had nowhere to go to a 40-year-old woman that was close to being homeless and opened her home to her for 7 months! She was always quick to teach anyone the craft of the day and patiently worked with others to help them realize that they could do it also!

Family was the most important thing in Karen's life next to her Savior Jesus Christ and she was the epitome of a "mama bear". Karen came from a family of 7 and is survived by her son Travis (Kaylynn), her sister Lisa, Mary, and Carol, and is predeceased by her sister Linda (David)! Her loving brothers are Gregory (Jodi) and Jeffery (Mary). The highlight of her life were her grandchildren Karsyn, Jacob, Daxton, and Emerson!

Words cannot adequately sum her life up on one page, but she loved and served her husband, Michael, her family, all her nieces, nephews, neighbors, and church family! In short, she was a saint here on earth that loved deeply and passionately in all she put her hand to! She will be missed but not forgotten for all the lives that she touched!

We will be having a celebration of her life service on September 2nd at the Long Grove Church where all that wish can regale us all with the memories of their time with Karen and they enjoy a meal together! Come one and come all to this blessed time of love and memories!
