12/23/2001 Chris Christmas Update from Chris Christman, just in time for Christmas, "After fifteen years of singledom I recently (August11, 2001) was married to my lovely wife, Teresa. Teresa and I and about 120 of our closest friends and family jumped aboard a 110 foot yacht out of Marina Del Rey, said our vows, and partied until we dropped, WHEW!!! We then flew to Tahiti, boarded a beautiful cruise ship and sailed to all the sister islands, Moorea, Bora Bora, etc... It was 10 days of bliss and unforgettable memories.Teresa is a pediatric oncology nurse in Los Angeles, and I run a transportation company for the disabeled. We are happy and healthy and living our lives so what else matters? As for funny stories about my time at WHS, I think the time I pantsed my friend ,Jim Born, at Glencoe beach in front of allllll of his friends was the best. He was really pissed and I laughed until I cried, and so did our friends, especially the girls. Anyway, today is December 23rd, 2001, and my wife and I would like to wish all of you from that time long ago a very joyous Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Take care and God Bless You."

Lia 19 freshman in college, and Nicholas 16 Junior in high school. I am a Registered Nurse and work as a case manger for the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. I sold my home in January and downscaled to another home in Park Ridge where I have lived for 17 years."

The 2001 WHS Alumni Directory was delivered today.  The good news is it has a lot of missing classmates listed.  The bad news is many of the addresses listed are the same addresses these missing alumni had in high school.  I also found many classmates that we have current addresses for, having their home addresses from high school listed, so the value of the data in the 2001 Alumni Directory is questionable at best.  Despite that, I did find several missing classmates:

10/20/2001 Nancy Nordby I'm sad to report that another one of our classmates, Nancy Nordby is deceased.  Nancy went to Aurora JC after Wheeling and then graduated from Arizona State in 73 with a degree in elementary education. She was married in 75, but her health had been bad after H.S. Her doctors treated her for arthritis, but she really had a lupus type blood disease, scleroderma. She passed away in 1977 because her heart couldn't handle the strain. This information was provided by Richard Nordby (67), Nancy's older brother.
Rest in Peace Nancy, we remember you and miss you!  Go with God.
10/15/2001 Susan Reese Found Susan Reese Chapman through her younger sister Carol Reese (72).  Susan and her husband Roger are living in Colleyville, TX.  Susan currently works as an administrator at Colleyville Heritage Middle School.  Her son Roger (21) is attending Texas Christian University, her son Kyle (19) is attending Texas A&M University, and daughter Tracey (10) attends Colleyville Elementary. 10/07/2001 Harrold Hubbard Finally was able to find Harrold Hubbard. Though he prefers to be called 'Hub' now.  I found Hub through his wife Jill Crane who graduated from Hersey (70) who listed at classmates.com.   Hub and Jill live in Bartlett, IL. [198].
10/06/2001 Brad Compton, Craig Compton, Rhonda Hansen, Reid Hansen This is a unique picture.  It has two sets of WHS Alumni siblings who also happen to be cousins.  They are from left to right, Brad Compton (69), brother Craig Compton (66), cousins Rhonda Hansen (70) and Reid Hansen (67).  What was the event that brought these alumni together?  Craig Compton's wedding.

Kristine VanSteenburg		 Found Kristine VanSteenburg Johnston.  Kris went to ISU where she met her husband Jim Johnston.  They were married in 1977.  Kris and Jim are living in Bloomington, IL.  They have a daughter Jaimee, who is a senior.  Kris just recently suffered through her 50th birthday.  Kris is also a Harley rider, just click on the lower picture to the left![199].

09/04/2001 Karen Koelsch First e-mail from Karen Koelsch Cragg.  Karen is living in Davenport, IA.  Karen offered this information, " My husband and I just celebrated our 29th anniversary and my dreaded 50th bd is around the corner.  Our oldest daughter (Kim-26) is living in Chicago.  Four years now- she graduated from University of Iowa in '97 and is  working for a social services agency and going to grad school at Loyola.  Our youngest (Laura-24) was married last Sept. and lives in the Des Moines (IA) area with her teacher husband.  They are both University of Northern Iowa alums.  She works as a program manager with a incentive travel company.  No grandchildren, but a darling "grand-dog". Dave and I are avid golfers.  He's really good and I'm working on the game.  It's all about the cute golf clothes and the gin and tonics!!  We are enjoying our empty nest and no tuition payments--life begins at 50!!??

08/18/2001 Phil Lemler First e-mail from Phil Lemler. Phil is living in Bayfield, CO.  Phil had this to say, "I have a son who is starting college, one who is a high school junior and a daughter who is a high school freshman. They all live with their Mom (ex-wife) in Albuquerque. I turned 50 as well and old age is hell. I am retired and enjoying the mountain life. Fishing, hiking and just relaxing. My wife and I plan on doing some traveling over the next couple of years."
08/17/2001 Gloria Raymond

Sad news to report.  Gloria Raymond Munos, passed away last week.  This information was provided by Lydia  "Gloria Raymond Munoz passed away this week. Don't know if I'd told you before, but she's been in a basically vegetative state for, gee... must be well over a year now. Very bazaar situation. Her daughter passed away (due to complications from diabetes, I believe) 2-3yrs ago. After that, she apparently had several strokes, then a major one some time in Dec of '99, I think it was. Went into a coma and never came out. Then, some time last year, her son found her husband dead in their house. Had apparently been there for some time. The house is apparently condemned. Poor son had a heck of a time getting power of attorney. Very complicated situation. Anyway, he didn't want to make the decision to stop life support... and thankfully, she finally passed this week."  Rest in Peace Gloria...we will all miss you!
08/06/2001 Mike Huffine New address for Mike Huffine.  Mike is living in Macedonia, IL.  Mike had this to say, "I'm in southern Illinois, and have been for the last three years, I needed to get closer to my family. Not to mention the weather is better here. I work for Ameritech, and I use to work with Jesse Escamilla, and Darrel Ramsey, both former WHS, classmates.  I enjoyed getting your mailing last Christmas, and you look quite proud of your kids and so you should. I have two children, one boy (ha,ha) 25yrs old and a 22 yr. old daughter. The reason for the ha, ha is of course at that age he is beyond being a boy, as are we. Any way thanks for the reply, and I hope to stay in touch with some of our old classmate's, I think this could be a lot of fun.Do you hear from many of them? Well you take care, drop a line now and then if you find the time."

06/30/2001 Darlene Morgan Some news from Darlene Morgan. "Transferred to WHS halfway through her junior year. Is now a psychotherapist with private practices in Arlington Heights and Evanston, where she works with clients with histories of trauma and family alcoholism. Has been active in inner city outreach for the past eight years through her church. Is a frequent seminar and workshop speaker at Willow Creek and other area churches on such issues as boundaries, codependency, forgiveness, and recovery from trauma. Is writing her first book! (Of course, publication is another issue.)"
Richard France Well it seems one of our classmates took the plunge and got married on July 1, 2000.  Richard France married Nancy and they are living in Cypress, TX.  Congratulations Rich and Nancy! Here is their wedding picture.

06/25/2001 Cindy Davidson Found Cindy Davidson Painter.  Here is what Cindy had to say, "My married name is Painter now. I live in Quakertown PA. My profession is Master Planning at a company named Allegro Microsystems. I have been married for 24 yrs. We have two children Nicole 20 yrs old, and William 18 yrs. old. I have been in PA for 30 yrs. Hope to hear from you sometime." [205].

06/21/2001 Tom Belpedio Sadly, another one of our classmates has passed away. Tom Belpedio passed away in his sleep on May 18th, 2001 from a blood clot in his lung.  The Columbus Ohio Dispatch had this obituary listed:

Dear Classmates of Wheeling High School Class of ‘69,

My oldest child, a son, has just graduated from high school and I've been thinking about all of you! I suppose most of you have already been through this experience (I was a little slow getting started). I’m so pleased that my son is doing well and is ready now to move forward into the next part of his life. On the other hand I wonder if I, as his father, have prepared him sufficiently for the experiences that are just ahead. I’m confident he’ll do well. I’ve tried to give a high priority to my responsibilities as a parent.

One comment was made by a speaker at the graduation service said this would be the last time that class will ever be together . . . that it would be impossible to get everyone together again. It was sobering to realize the truth of that statement. I’ve remembered what little I could of our graduation 31 years ago. Afterward, it was just a few days until one classmate, Janice Williams, was killed in a car accident. She was a good friend of mine. I’m sure no one could account for the tragedies and triumphs, the joys and the heartaches or even just the goings and comings since our graduation day.

While I haven’t been a great letter writer, I’ve been grateful to my friends from high school and the many experiences I had there. I’m sure I haven’t expressed my appreciation adequately to you. High school was very good to me. I learned a lot from the curriculum and teachers, but I learned many important lessons from my friends and classmates. Those lessons came when I was very teachable and just establishing living patterns that would continue for a lifetime. I particularly express gratitude to Gary Hedberg who has created and maintained a web site at http://www.whs69.com I’ve enjoyed looking at pictures of classmates and the memories of high school times.

I moved shortly after graduating and I haven’t been around to maintain friendships or attend reunions. I’ve lived in Utah most of my life. I served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint for two years in Pennsylvania and later graduated from Brigham Young University in accounting. I’ve worked a couple of years for Ross Perot’s company, Electronic Data Systems, and now I’m employed in Salt Lake City at the headquarters offices of my church.

My wife, Rachael, and I have five children, the oldest is 18 and the youngest is 11. My children are doing well in school and developing their talents in music, dance, drama and so on. I still enjoy playing the flute and singing. I enjoy working in the garden this time of year, reading and trying to keep up with what’s happening this rapidly changing world we live in. Life is good and very challenging!

We’re looking forward to the Olympics coming to Salt Lake City next year. Utah has a lot of national parks and great skiing. It’s a great place to visit and I’d be happy to help any of you plan a trip here. Maybe I could show you around Salt Lake City. I’m interested in renewing friendships or making new friends and I’d be happy to hear from you.

05/26/2001 Mike Pattarozzi Mike Pattarozzi turned himself in :-).  Mike and his wife Chris are living in Highlands Ranch, CO.  Mike offered this information, "Time is such a strange thing. As some say, it must be a vast spiral, because the past and the present and probably the future seem to be intertwined. High school was a long time ago, it was just yesterday, it still exists in my mind today. My wife Chris, our youngest daughter Katie, and I live in Colorado,and have since escaping from Texas after graduate school, 26 years ago. I am a Lieutenant with the Englewood Fire Division, I have been with them for 23 years. My current hobbies include iaido, aikido, and kendo.I finally gave up sailing in favor of a canoe. We have three daughters, Tracey-25, Laura-23, and Katie-8. We also have two granddaughters, Amy-5, and Tiffany-3. We are planning on attending the 35 reunion" [207].
Jonathan "Chris" Christman Found Chris Christman.  Chris doesn't have e-mail at this time. Chris is living in Valley Village, CA.  He said he's getting married in August after having been single for the last 15 years or so.  Good luck and congratulations Chris! [208].

05/21/2001 First e-mail from Deborah Ellen Stasik Baker.  Ellen only spent senior year at WHS.  She offered this, "I only attended a few months before graduating (early) -- and I never really got to know any of my classmates on a personal level. My REAL "alma mater" will always be North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, PA, where I attended three years (before our family moved to the Chicago area).  I'm in Washington State.  I really do LOVE RAIN). Glacier is at the NW foot of Mt. Baker, in Whatcom County -- I can see the Canadian border from our north windows. I discovered and adopted this beautiful habitat after visiting a family relative who was "professing" at Western Washington University in Bellingham in the '70's. I enjoy operating an architectural ceramics business, here (website www.telcomplus.net/orion). I have a grown son who graduated from University of Washington in 1997. I'm very happily married to a professional engineer. We're very avid golfers. Other activities include astronomy, piano, fly fishing, and shooting sports (hey, this still is the Wild West) Thanks again for the invite, but no sense keeping me on your list! 05/18/2001 Patty Lindmeier At long last, I was able to find Patty Lindmeier!  Patty has decided to use the second half of her given name as her first name now, preferring to be called Tricia.  Anyway here is what Patty...er Tricia had to say, "Patty Lindmeier, now known as Tricia Cadwell, has been found. She has lived in So CA for the last 30 years and has two grown daughters and five grandchildren that she adores. Her husband and best friend, Dale, passed  away in 2000. For those of you who knew her siblings, older sister, Janice Lindmeier (66) and youngest brother David "Dal", passed away in 1999. Brother Ed "Lindy", is doing great and lives in San Diego. Tricia "Patty" found her calling 12 years ago in social work and works for Social Services in Riverside County. She says "serving the people", has been her life's mission and she has been blessed to be able to always find a way to accomplish this goal. 05/03/2001 Kurt Grove Finally got a response from Kurt Grove who had listed himself at Classmates.com.  Here is what Kurt had to say, "I've been between Puerto Rico and Peru since 1973 shortly after I graduated from UI. In Brief, since Wheeling I graduated from UI with a BS in Geology 1972. Then went to Puerto Rico where I obtained a Masters degree in Marine Science 1977. I worked with the US Geological Survey In San Juan 'til 1981 when I went to Peru as a Volunteer to help install a Radio station for the Bahai Faith. During this "vacation" I met my wife and stayed on assisting Bahai Radio and teaching at the University in Puno, Peru until 1991. Terrorism and hyper-inflation took its toll and we decided to re-establish in Puerto Rico. We continue to be active members of the Bahai Faith. I went back to the University of Puerto Rico where I finished a PhD in Marine Science (1998) and started work with the UPR Sea Grant College Program. We Plan to stay" [211].

Did a lot of traveling here and overseas (Switzerland, Germany, Amsterdam, Spain) before I was married. Quit Allstate in 1995 ands stayed at home with the kids for 2 years. Went back to work part-time, close to home and still working part time at a small Distribution & Warehousing office." [218]
Bonnie Christiansen New address for Bonnie Christensen Crist. According to an anonymous sibling, "Bonnie has a computer and is on line, but won't set up an address for herself. We are all still working on her to do so. She says it's for the kids to use when they come home. Bonnie has 3 children: Lisa (32), Rob (25) and Amy (21)."

I decided to change the handling of those on the PENDING list.  To be moved from the Lost List to the PENDING list, I had to have found an alumni's listing on Classmates.com, or Alumni.net, or Highschoolalumni.com, or have been given contact information from another source.  I would put PENDING as their address and that would take them off the MISSING list.  However I found that many people didn't respond to e-mails sent to them from Classmates.com or other sources, so I've decided to implement a new rule of thumb.  I will keep names in the PENDING list for 3 months. If they do not respond in that time, their PENDING status will be removed and they will go back on the missing list. I don't want to be misleading with the number of people who are found.  I will publish a separate table of those on the PENDING list on the same page as the Missing List from now on.

Linda Weiler Hornsby		 First e-mail from Linda Weiler Hornsby.  "We are soon moving back to Chicago, hopefully this summer. I'm now a registered nurse and my husband is a CFO with an accounting degree. He'll be looking for a job in Chicago so if anyone knows of any opportunity for him let me know. Unfortunately he will be sixty and age goes against him, too bad with all his great knowledge. I won't have a problem, nurses are in great demand. I was thrilled to find this sight. I'm going to be a grandmother for the first time. I have two beautiful daughters, I must have done something right, one plays with dogs for a living and the other teaches dancing to children, they both love what they do and make great money too. The greatest story I remember from WHS was getting busted on "water day" we did carry it to an extreme, they banned it after our class. I hope everyone out there has the great life I have, it only took me twenty years to achieve it. I graduated college last year, doing a 4 year program in 2 years 4 months and 13 days, but who counting? What a challenge but I came out of it with a 3.65 GPA and passed my boards on the first try. It is with great sorrow that I have to report that Pam Hanson Feller passed away on January 23rd, 2001 after a long battle with cancer.  She died in her son's home in Minnesota.  Her memorial service will be Saturday, February 3rd at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire, WI.
