Dina commented who would have thought 40+ years ago that 5 students from Wheeling High School, would be all standing together in a vineyard in Wilcox, Arizona!
08/16/2010 Chuck Alton That is my older son spotting me. This video(4gb) was made three years ago. It was not planned. My son showed up at the gym with his video camera and said "We are going to get a video of you benching four plates". I said "I don't know if I want to do that as just did that last week and my shoulders still have not recovered". So I just did my normal workout and it felt good so I went for the four plates (405 lbs) as my eighth set. I also attempted 415 as the ninth set, but needed a little help. I also have a video a from two years ago leg pressing 950 lbs, ten full reps where I "eat" my knees. Walter Payton lived three blocks away from me for awhile in Arlington Heights and he leg pressed that amount of weight. I was 57 when I did that. I do not take any supplements of any kind including vitamins. My diet is junk food.

My son is a professional martial arts instructor and trains mostly police, SWAT, and drug enforcement officers in real fighting. He also has fought in 13 professional cage fights. He asks me to work out with him because I can do his workout and bench more than him. He can deadlift 515 which is more than me though.

I have injured myself many times in the gym, but heal all the injuries so I have a pain free injury free body.

The mind is the source of the strength, not the body. I can still hit a fast pitched baseball. I beat my son on Father's day one on one playing basketball after we lifted weights. He can slam dunk. I can play defense and am very quick with all the leg strength.

I still have my first baseman's glove from WHS. Although I elected to get into championship go kart racing rather than continue in sports as that was the best for me. The summer after WHS graduation had a festival at WHS and a local go kart club set-up a demonstration go kart race in the front parking lot. I won easily with speeds over 60 mph in the front parking lot.. I raced for 13 years in sprint karts and enduro karts (130 mph) and have two national championships and my engines built for other people won many. My son and I were Arizona State champions. I also won the California State championships against drivers much younger than me. Richie Hearn was one of the younger drivers and was a INDY car race later in life. Now I am a jet engine design consultant with my own business and I also have my own practice as a spiritual healer.

I remember my senior English class in English literature with Mary Healy. She used to pick on me for coasting in her class. I got a B. I did not care as who needs that garbage as I was headed to I.I.T. to study mechanical engineering. Mary Healy told me in front of the entire class that I will flunk out of IIT in my freshman year as I would not pass English 101. On graduation night after the ceremony there was a line of teachers waiting to congratulate us, Mary Healy was there too. I said to her "Miss Healy, I just want you to know that my SAT scores were so high that I will not have take English 101 at IIT". That was true and I did not take 101. That was the end of that. What was great about IIT is they had the minimum of courses that were required outside of engineering. So I got more engineering there than other schools. I have four patents in jet engine design. 13 years of successful racing and I built four engine dynamometer test stands over that time to develop the championship engines.

Right now I am working on custom written computer code that solves the Navier Stokes equations of fluid motion for air at high altitudes that exist in the sealing interface of a jet engine oil seal. Rarefied gas dynamics is used which is the molecular theory of gases as the classical equations break down when the density of air is lower. The computer solves the partial differential equations which compute the air pressure in the seal interface which causes the seal to ride on an air film like an air hockey puck. This eliminates all friction and wear and the air momentum prevents oil leakage. This enables jet engines to last 20,000 to 40,000 hours without contaminating the cabin with oil fumes.

Mr. Dunker and Mr. Theisen would eat their heart outs to see the math and physics here. This is my technology that I developed. That is why I am a consultant now. I got fired at my last job for behavior problems (which did not exist) and I am the last person who would have a behavior problem. Me new boss felt threatened by my knowledge of jet engine design as he had no background in this field so I could see the axe coming. That was a gift as my business is a lot more fun and there is no limit. Shortly after I was let go of, record flooding occurred in Rhode Island were my company was and the plant is 500 feet from a river. The company got flooded out with over four feet deep of water in the plant. Everything was ruined. The water was also sewage water. They had some bad karma. Their two biggest customers (jet engine OEMs) tried to hire me. I settled for being a consultant.

Now I work out of my home in Arizona doing these high speed jet engine fluid dynamics lubrication models on a computer. Jet engine design is fun. What really makes this work is not the physics, it is Faith.

Any one out there want to play a little one on one? Let me know.

08/16/2010 Dennis Reynolds I'm saddened to have to report that Dennis Reynolds passed away nearly 9 years ago on November 1, 2001 according to Ancestry.com.  I remember Dennis as a quick witted, jovial and happy guy who always had a joke and a smile.

Rest in Peace Dennis.

03/01/2010 Jeff Hayes Although I should have been working, I just finished reviewing the website and the annual news listings for our class. In doing so, I realizerd I had not sent an update in a couple of years. So, here goes...

In June, 2007, our youngest daughter, Heather (then 28), her husband, (then 28), and our granddaughter (then 1) moved back to Mundelein from Houston. Not only moved back, but moved into our home with us. The move was made so our son-in-law could pursue his master of divinty at Trinity Evangelical in Deerfield.

They were with us until last November when they decided it was time to establish their own home. That move was good and bad, good because it came about as a result of their decision to likely stay here when he finishes school (he has three semester-long field exercises and his internship to complete). Their original plan was to move back south when he finished. The move was bad because we no longer get to spend part of every day with our granddaughter, we have to settle for about once every week. Even that has turned out well, though, because she wants, and gets, Grandpa's undivided attention when we are together. I should add that our granddaughter is perfect in every way.

The decision to stay in this area was influenced by my daughter's teaching job at Christian Heritage Academy, a private preschool through 9th grade, soon to be 12th grade, school in Northfield. My granddaughter attends preschool there, also. My daughter is extremely happy there and, knowing my son-in-law's predisposition to do what makes my daughter happy, that is likely the reason he has pursued staying in this area. I truly believe the reason he chose Trinity for his masters was so my daughter could come home. I am so grateful my daughter found a young man who truly loves her and puts her ahead of himself. I am still getting used to the idea of having a pastor in the family, though.

The move back was the second time this daughter moved back home after having moved out. Both times she stayed long enough for us to get used to having her back, then moved out again. This time, however, we having adjusted to her being gone much more quickly. It's having our granddaughter gone that has been the most diffivcult adjustment.

Our older daughter (34) continues to live in New York City, now in SoHo, and continues, for some incomprehensible reason, to love it. She continues to teach dance, perform as both a dancer and an actress, and now also teaches at a preschool. This past summer she and a group she acts with went on a four week European tour with one of their shows. She is still single, but is dating a young man who may, possibly, be "the one". They have the kind of conversations and do the kinds of things together that couples contemplating marriage do. Apparently they have a two year plan. I just hope she tells us so we can be there when and if they do get married.

June 30th will be our 37th wedding anniversary and I am still trying figure how she puts up with me. When I was in law school, in answer to a professor's question, I described how my upcoming graduation was the culmination of 14 years of going to school part-time and my wife of (then) 15 years was estatic. In response, one of my clessmates described her as a saint. After 37 years of putting up with me, boy has she proven him right.

Ok, there is my lengthy and overly detailted update. I hope this finds you doing well as you continue to do an amazing job with the website.
