The first combined All 60's Classes Reunion was held this weekend.  All the classes, '66, '67, '68, and '69 enjoyed a whole weekend of fun and remembrances. Friday night we gathered at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant & Bar for an informal getting re-acquainted event.  Saturday morning several people got together for a golf outing, with Coach Daletski in attendance.  Saturday night we had a more of a formal reunion dinner at Chevy Chase with Dr. Tom Shirley providing the invocation.  Sunday was a picnic at Dam #1 for the Bombers 2nd Annual Scholarship Bash.  Pictures are on line now!

Mary Koza Russell also wanted to share with us her family Christmas photo for 2002, and a little personal information:
"Now that I have two teenagers of my own (Mackenzie,17 and Justin, 16), it brings back many memories of when I was a teen.  I hope they never read this, but one of my fondest memories was singing a Mitch Ryder song in the stairwell with Wendy Martin, also class of 1969.  One of the lines was something like "You can take your funky world" - except Wendy and I didn't say "funky", but something that sounded like that.  We thought we were so cool, singing this as LOUD as we could. (I would never want to be a junior high or high school teacher).  As I re-live that moment, I can feel the fun and wild abandon of being a teen.  I also remember another time when Paul McCartney got married to Cynthia and some girl in my gym class was crying hysterically.  I could not believe she was taking it so personally.

My daughter is a junior at Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette and my son is a sophomore at New Trier in Winnetka.  My advice to them both has always been to treat people with respect - that you will never know how it will affect someone later in life. I still remember a couple of guys at Wheeling who were very sweet and respectful.  They were not into "image."  If they read this, I think they know who they are. I also tell my children to try and participate in as many activities as they feel comfortable doing and try and be in a lot of year book pictures.  I was sort of shy in high school and wished I had participated in more activities.  The other night I was sitting on the floor of my son's room talking with him about anything and everything.  In walked my daughter and sat down and we were talking and laughing.  Secretly, inside my head, I thanked God for that special time.  I know it will be very soon when they will be leaving for college or whatever.

I have been married to my husband, John, for 31 years this coming June.  He is my best friend.  One of the reasons for our being married so long is that we have the same sense of humor and use it.  He has always been a "real" person, and not into image. He loves sports and reads the Tribune sports section daily.  The other day he pointed out to me the article that was entitled "20-1 Wheeling seeks lst league title".  He often mentions Wheeling's sports accomplishments when he comes across them in the paper (not that I care that much, but it is nice of him.)

My major accomplishment in life is being alive and being a pretty decent person (and striving to be better every day).  It could have easily gone the other way because of childhood traumas.  I finally see that it's not what happens to you in your life, but what you say to yourself about the event and yourself that matters. I finally "got" this a few months ago.
